WWD (Women’s Wear Daily) recently worked with IBM Watson to scan the fall 2017 fashion runways.
Access to fashion shows and thus the ability to gain exclusive understanding of emerging trends was formerly reserved for a minute group of merchandisers, editors, fashion forecasters and other insider roles — today, Watson's intensive data analysis tools democratize fashion analysis, making actionable industry insights available to a much broader community of fashion designers and other creatives.
From a labor perspective, this new application of Watson represents a convergence between the data science domain and creative domain involved in the fashion design process. As in many other industries leveraging Digital Labor, new mixes of expert Analog Labor are required to support such disruptive technologies.
At RUMJog, we will continue to provide updates on the impacts of exponential technologies like Watson on consumer industries and labor economics.
